The Best of #ScreenshotSaturday, August 17, 2019

After following the #ScreenshotSaturday hashtag on Twitter for the past few years, i decided to bundle the best of a Screenshot Saturday on PlayingIndies. This is not a top 5, top 10, top 25. These are just the best screenshots i saw on Screenshot Saturday August 17, 2019.

Buildings & Buildings

Jon Keller posted a screenshot of his upcoming indie game, Arclands. As shortly mentioned in a DevLog posted in July, the game has to be entertaining and not like with spreadsheet. So far it certainly looks like it’s achieving just that.

Squishy Sports

ChrisJeff Games posted a screenshot from the game Squishy Sports. This game is focussed on “quick play, couch co-op with fast, reactive, fun gameplay” according to their press kit.

Hoverloop

https://twitter.com/HoverloopNAC/status/1162685050321870849

Not A Company (yes, that’s their name) posted their game Hoverloop and the video looks pretty darn good. Hoverloop released in January 2018 on Steam and is also available on Xbox One. Hoverloop is free to play, so you don’t even have to pay for it! Science is cool, kids!

Therone

Therone is a turn-based RPG game being developed by Alekstain. After going on his profile and seeing more gifs of Therone, I had to include this game in this list. It’s not the most advanced pixel art ever, but it still looks very appealing.

Little Misfortune

Killmonday Games posted Little Misfortune and that actually looks good. Little Misfortune is an interactive story, focussed on exploration, both sweet and dark, where your choises have consequenses. Little Misfortune is scheduled to release later 2019. The demo is already downloadable on Steam.

Boxwrecker Arena

Broxwrecker Arena, developed by Jealous Ducks caught my eye as well. This game is scheduled for release on September 2019. This game is a dynamic platformer where your levels try to beat you as much as you try to beat them! Show your wits, skill, and style to become the champion.

Fin and the Ancient Mystery

Fin is a 2D adventure game due for release on Nintendo Switch on September 3, 2019. The player will be able to both brandish a sword or put their brain to good use in puzzle solving. I think that this game will be a great addition to the Switch and kudos to Silesia Games on a good looking game.

Clive ‘N’ Wrench

Clive ‘N’ Wrench is a 3D platformer centered around Clive, a rabbit, and Wrench, the literal monkey on his back. Their adventure will take you through time and space in a 1950’s fridge, all on a quest to undo Clive’s cousin Nancy’s mistake, and ultimately thwart the tyrannical Dr. Daucus! CnW features 11 distinct levels as well as boss battles and a hub world.  This game is 8 years in development and I still can’t find a release date but it does look fun. Indie Games often take more time in development than AAA titles do.

AWAY: The Survival Series

https://twitter.com/AwaySeries/status/1162751293863202816

We could just congratulate them with getting to 500 members in their Discord server, but look at that video – it looks great! “Inspired by nature documentaries, AWAY: The Survival Series takes you on the Sugar Glider’s breathtaking journey into the wild. As cataclysmic storms bear down on the planet, immerse yourself in nature and explore a vibrant world brimming with life, but beware of the dangers that lie ahead… “ as their Steam page says.

Resolutiion

Resolutiion is a classic action-adventure-game made of lovely pixels, dirty jokes, and badass emotional tunes. The graphic style is very colorful and who doesn’t like that? Monolith of Minds has done well here.

TokoToko

https://twitter.com/tokotokogame_/status/1162651317761974273

“Help Hako becoming an artist! Complete creative puzzles with real paper drawings and augmented reality interactions to help Hako find the other Tokotokos in a cute and amusing story.” TokoToko is in development at Kalank.

Jaws of Extinction

This is just one screenshot and we can’t see the game in action here, but you have to admit, this looks cool, right? I like the amount of detail I’m seeing when I look at this screenshot from Jaws of Extinction. This is being developed by JoEGames in Unreal Engine 4.

Unfamiliar

https://twitter.com/ManaTeaGames/status/1162648996306800640

This is from an upcoming title, Unfamiliar. I hope that the programmer solves this cat-problem. It still looked funny to me, so I had to include this game on the list.

Heralds of the Order

Archean Games tweeted this screenshot in a tempt to promote their demo for Heralds of the Order. It looks pretty good, and because of that, it is included in this list.

The Almost Gone

I found this trailer for The Almost Gone and I was impressed with what Happy Volcano shows here. Also, if you go to Gamescom, you can meet up with the developers and probably try the game. Great!

Sockman

There he is, Sockman the superhero. Sockman is a colorful 2D platformer, and the developers are looking for a publisher. With a game looking as good as this, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Divetheim

I found Divetheim during this screenshot Saturday and just look at it; that boat is so cute! With the general look of this game in development at Heartstep Studios, I had to include Divetheim in the list.

Tritone

The developers of Tritone are working on a Zelda inspired action-adventure game with a focus on color, mysterious technology, and puzzles. In this tweet, they show off some new special attacks and particles that look fun.

Armortale

RPG2Haven posted a gif from Armortale. Whilst the retro-look doesn’t provide the most detail you have ever seen, it still looks like a fun game to play through.

Oneiros

https://twitter.com/CoalValleyGames/status/1162617861443084289

A game about regaining control, an adventure. Can you regain control? Oneiros is in development with Coal Valley Games and to me, it looks like they are doing a great job.

Farmpocalypse

Glowstick Entertainment’s game Farpocalypse (formally Dead Acres) features some voxel art and a fun looking way of destroying the in-game enemies. And games are about being fun first, right?

Scarce Tactics

https://twitter.com/scarce_tactics/status/1162612133596749829

Showing off improved camera movements, Pixelgate Studios shows off some of their game Scarce Tactics, a modern tactical role-playing game. Since it looks pretty, I decided to include this RPG in the list.

The Falconeer

Little Chicken Game Company shows off a video with some bullet play; how will you avoid them? The Falconeer is a good looking game and because of that, it had to be on the list.

Kynseed

https://twitter.com/Kynseed/status/1162608812408225795

Pixelcount Studios shows off a new noticeboard in their game Kynseed, and that looks very appealing. The game released in Early Access on Steam in November 2018.

Dungeon Stars

A 2D Hack and Slash Dungeon crawler, that is what this addictive button smashing game is according to Furnace Games, and it looks really fun to play. Dungeon Stars is already available on Steam and Nintendo Switch.

Platypus Adventures

https://twitter.com/PlatypusAdvent1/status/1162513757601275905

I also found Platypus adventures, a 3D platformer featuring – you guessed it – a platypus! No need to say more. This must be what you’re looking for.

Damsel

https://twitter.com/DamselGame/status/1162448964626472960

Now playable on the PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, Damsel is a 2D action platformer that looks good and is actually quite fun to play. Screwtape Studios must be proud now that the game has hit most modern consoles.

Those Who Remain

“Those Who Remain is an up-close, psychological horror, set in the sleepy town of Dormont. Confront uncomfortable horrors, keep your sanity in check and survive the night.” is what the Steam page says about Those Who Remain, a game in development from Camel 101. This game is scheduled to release sometime in 2019.

Georifters

Scheduled for release in October 2019, Busy Toaster showed off Geodrifters on Twitter this Saturday, and it looks pretty good. The game will be available on Steam.

Pine

Pine is “An open-world action adventure game set in a simulated world in which humans never reached the top of the food chain.” developed by Twirlbound and scheduled to release later on in 2019. This is a good looking game more people should check out.

Here Be Dragons

Here be dragons is an interesting looking game. It’s a turned based strategy game with lots of stuff to do. Give their Steam page a look!

Shadow of Doubt

“A first-person detective stealth game set in a fully-simulated neo-noir city! There’s a serial killer on the loose, and it’s up to you to catch them by any means necessary: Sneak, tail, hide, hack and lock-pick. Just keep a low profile!” Shadow of Doubt, a game in development at ColePowered Games is looking quite interesting.

Circadian City

“Circadian City is a life simulation game inspired by the classics like Sims series and Stardew Valley.” is something Nowhere studios have been working on for a while now and it has paid off! It is expected to release in Early Access at a later date.

Flippin Kaktus

https://twitter.com/FlippinKaktus/status/1162771422315503618

Flippin Kaktus is a brutal action-driven adventure with platformer elements, featuring rage outbreaks combat style.” And it looks pretty flippin’ good! Well done, MyBunny Games!

Ninja Chowdown

“Are you ready to chowdown on some good food as an ambitious, jolly, big-boned ninja? Play as our hero ninja Donatsu as he chases down rival ill-willed food-loving warriors.” This game from Dummy Dojo has been successfully Kickstarted.

From Orbit

From Orbit is a quick and light single-player Action RTS in development with Tentacle Head Games. From Orbit is scheduled to release on Steam on August 27.

Gripper

GRIPPER, the bizarre offspring of Mad Max and Zelda, is an action RPG on wheels aiming to tug on your heartstrings as well as the enemies. Gripper looks fun and who doesn’t love explosions?

ExoCorps

This is Jetpack Powered Exosuit Deathmatch!  Deathmatch is most of the time fun to play, so this is appealing to me. Plus who the heck doesn’t love jetpacks?! Gingerbred Games are expecting to release in February 2020 on Steam.

Dungeon Souls

Dungeon Souls is an action-adventure roguelike dungeon crawler which draws heavy inspiration from Nuclear Throne, Risk of Rain, and Overture. Developed by Lamina Studios and Mike Studios, Dungeon Souls is looking fun to play and when I saw this tweet, I had to include it.

End

This was the first time I have done did a list of “Best #ScreenshotSaturday” tweets. It is a bit longer than I planned, so if I do more of these, it will more likely be Top 10’s. I would really appreciate feedback in the comments, so let me know what you liked, disliked, or would like to see included next time!
