A while back, the developer of Road Doom provided me a key for his game. Today i finally played it and here is what i think.
Road Doom in general
Road Doom is a shoot em up game with 2D graphics. The goal is to kill enemies and avoid their bullets. The enemies came to take over the Earth.
You play as truck. There isn’t much to say about that. The truck has multiple potential powerups but in looks he mostly stays the same.
As the title might tell you, Road Doom happens on a road. In each level the colours around the road change but in essence the roads are basically the same.
The variety in enemies is decent. It’s not the same enemies all over and that keeps the variety going. However sometimes I felt that the enemies don’t really fit together. Like, what do spiders and worms have to do with spaceships?
Sound / Music
The music in road doom is really nice. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of variety, but it fits the theme. The basic sound effects are plain, like in most games, they get the job done though.
One of the reasons I wanted to play Road Doom were the graphics. It’s basic 2D but it has a lot of detail. From worms to spiders, to spaceships. It’s not the most detailed ever, but I think it looks really fun.
Road Doom is a basic indie game that doesn’t stand out in the crowd. There is a lot of similar games available. With a full price of 6,59 euros I think this game is overpriced. While it is overpriced at its full price, for shoot em up fans this game might be a good buy in a sale and it will give you a few hours of fun.
Price / Quality: Overpriced for the quality
Rating: 5/10 – In the basics a fun game, but doesn’t stand out in the crowd.
